Labor Day Weekend Family Reunion

Labor Day weekend is a bittersweet time of year.  Each year it marks the end of summer which is very sad, but it offers one of those rare times of the year where my extended family can be together which brings on a smile.  As all of the kids have aged and all our lives have become more hectic, these times together have become sparse.

This year we gathered as we do every year in my favorite place, Newfound Lake in New Hampshire.
Everyone arrived on Friday night around dinner time and the fun began.  Saturday morning we all participated (in various ways) in a 4.2 mile road race, sponsored by the local bakery, where we have been loyal customers for much of my life.  You can check out the bakery’s web site -  Above is a picture prior to the race with the only missing people being my nephew Benjamin (who already went back to Syracuse for his senior year) and my sister Suzy’s dog, Ellie (not sure where she is hiding or what she is sniffing).   My son and I ran the entire race, grueling hills and all, to the tune of just over 10 minute miles.  |

Then the day was filled with brunch at my sister’s home, games for all the association kids on the beach (coordinated and run by myself and another parent), a barbecue on the beach next to the water, and finally a bonfire with s’mores.

Sunday included waterskiing, tubing, a hike through Sculptured Rocks in Groton, NH, the beach, and ended with local fried food prior to the sad ride home.

Another summer in the books.
